It’s been four months since I told you about an upcoming holiday movie for Universal Pictures that would star “Game of Thrones” actress Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding, who gained fame last year thanks to a leading role in the hugely successful “Crazy Rich Asians”.
The two lead “Last Christmas“, a romantic Christmas film set in London and directed by Paul Feig (“A Simple Favor”) with a screenplay penned by Emma Thompson and Bryony Kimmings.
Universal Pictures synopsis reads as, “As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two. But sometimes, you gotta let the snow fall where it may, you gotta listen to your heart…and you gotta have faith.”
So, if the title makes you instantly think of the Wham! classic holiday tune, that’s intentional. The movie is inspired by the song. “I’d met with George Michael,” Thompson explained to the Daily Mail on a fake snow-covered set in Bond Street. “He was concerned about the homeless, which is a large part of this story. We spoke a lot about life and death, and thereโs a lot of that in this film as well.”
As of today we officially have a first look at the festive flick thanks to Golding’s latest Instagram photo, which features his character ‘Tom’ and Clarke’s ‘Kate’ taking a stroll through the wintry city streets. Thompson, Rebecca Root (“Colette”) and Michelle Yeoh (“Crazy Rich Asians”) also star.
“Last Christmas” hits theaters November 2019!
Stay merry!
