It feels like the year is flying by—Thanksgiving is just days away! To help build more anticipation for the big day, and the “official start” of the holiday season, we have compiled all of the details for the upcoming 97th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!  The time-honored tradition will feature a big line-up this year filled with exciting floats, balloons, marching bands, performers, and some of your favorite stars as they celebrate throughout the busy streets of New York City. 🦃✨

“TODAY” show anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker will return as hosts of the three-hour telecast, which will be simulcast on Peacock. Nationwide audiences can also catch an encore of the celebration when NBC airs an encore at 2 p.m. ET/PT.

This year’s Macy’s Parade will feature 5,000 volunteers, 16 featured character balloons, 26 fantastic floats, 32 heritage and novelty balloons, more than 700 clowns, 12 marching bands and 9 performance groups.  The legendary star of music, film, stage and television, CHER, will kick off the festivities by performing one of her holiday hits from her album, Christmas, at 34^th Street!

As we usher in November, we can celebrate the fact that we’re just weeks away from the 96th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a time-honored tradition that helps welcome the holiday season. This iconic festive morning event will feature extravagant helium balloons floating in the sky and whimsical floats gliding down the streets of New York City while marching bands and other top talent put on show-stopping performances along the way, and you won’t want to miss appearances from the Radio City Rockettes® and, the one-and-only, Santa Claus!

“Today” show anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker will return to host the three-hour telecast; viewers nationwide can catch all the action via the special broadcasts on NBC and Peacock from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in all time zones; an encore of the Macy’s Parade will air from 2-5 p.m. ET.

Breaking News Update (11/18/22): The Queen of Christmas is opening this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Mariah Carey will welcome the festivities with a magical merry performance, and she will help close the show with a finale performance of her holiday anthem, “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. NBC is wasting zero time kicking off the holiday season!  The network has revealed its holiday programming slate already, and it includes a lot of traditions like the beloved “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” coverage, “Christmas in Rockefeller Center,“ and airings of the classics “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “It’s A Wonderful Life”.  NBC will also re-air its Michael Bublé and Kelly Clarkson music specials from last year in addition to the premiere of the highly anticipated movie, “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” starring iconic country music legend as well as Miley Cyrus, Willie Nelson, “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon and many others.

Speaking of Cyrus, last year’s inaugural “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party” was such a hit that it will return this New Year’s Eve, and the singer will be joined by an A-list cast of musicians and celebrities in front of a live audience.

Get in the spirit of the season with Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler for their “Baking It” holiday special, which will coincide with season two of the baking competition series that will air exclusively on the Peacock streaming service.

You can expect to see ‘a spectacle like no other’ when 15 giant character balloons, 28 floats, 36 novelty and heritage inflatables, more than 800 clowns, 10 marching bands and 9 performance groups, a host of musical stars — and, of course, Santa Claus — march their way down the streets of New York City on Thanksgiving morning.

“Today” show anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker will host the three-hour telecast; viewers nationwide can catch all the action via the special broadcasts on NBC and Telemundo, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in all time zones, and for the first time fans can also livestream coverage on Peacock. The Spanish-language simulcast on Telemundo will be hosted by “En Casa con Telemundo’s” Ana Jurka and Carlos Adyan, accompanied by Freddy Lomelí live from Sixth Avenue, and will feature a special appearance by current Miss Universe, Andrea Meza.

The full lineup for all of the programming coming to NBC and the network’s streaming service, Peacock, this holiday season is here! From classic favorites and traditional events to brand-new specials, there’s something to enjoy from November until the new year!

Among NBC’s offerings is the iconic “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” and “Christmas at Rockefeller Center” specials, and the network presentation of “Annie LIVE!” starring Harry Connick Jr., Nicole Scherzinger, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, Taraji P. Henson, and Celina Smith as Annie. You can also look forward to holiday episodes from comedies like “Young Rock”, “KENAN” and “Mr. Mayor”.

Kelly Clarkson and Michael Bublé are also set to embrace the sounds of the season with musical specials while Jimmy Fallon‘s bestselling children’s book, “5 More Sleeps ‘Til Christmas”, gets turned into a primetime animated special.

Original programming is also coming to the Peacock streaming service, including the premieres of the original movie “The Housewives of the North Pole” starring Betsy Brandt and Kyle Richards, and the holiday competition series “Baking It” from executive producer Amy Poehler.

NBC made an announcement today regarding their fall lineup, including news on upcoming debut shows, special events and, yes, their highly-anticipated holiday programming slate.

The network will continue their musical tradition with the seven-time Tony Award winner “Annie Live!”. The 95th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air November 25th, Thanksgiving Day, and the beloved “Christmas at Rockefeller Center” special will also return with the lighting of this year’s Christmas tree.

Comedian and talk show host Jimmy Fallon is set produce the animated special “Five More Sleeps ‘Til Christmas,“ based on his best-selling children’s book. Additionally a new animated special, “Trolls: Holiday in Harmony,“ arrives from DreamWorks Animation.

The network will air special holiday episodes of the hit comedies “Kenan,” “Mr. Mayor,“ and “Young Rock”, a sitcom based upon the life of professional wrestler and actor Dwayne Johnson.

Despite the very different holiday season we’ll be having this year, you can count on NBC to bring some of your most cherished traditions right into your homes with their nostalgic-filled lineup of seasonal programming, which was officially announced today.

Among the network’s holiday offering is the annual “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade”, the tree lighting ceremony for “Christmas at Rockefeller Center” and a viewing of the iconic show, the “Radio City Christmas Spectacular”.  NBC will also premiere “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical!” starring Matthew Morrison, “The Voice Holiday Celebration”, the “Saturday Night Live” Thanksgiving and Christmas specials, and of course a few family-fun movies, including Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (both the 1966 animation and the 2000 feature film) and the classic “It’s A Wonderful Life”.

For many, we’re already well into the holiday season, but for some Americans… it’s Thanksgiving that really sets their festive plans in motion, so today I bring you news on the 94th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®… and it’s going to look a lot different this year.

Given the state of the world right now, it should come at no surprise that many precautions are being taken to ensure safety during the iconic Thanksgiving Day celebration this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look forward to a tradition that so many hold dear.

So, how is this all moving forward? According to an official website statement:  On Thanksgiving Day, we will showcase our annual celebration’s signature balloons, floats, performances and herald the arrival of Santa Claus, in front of Macy’s famed flagship store on 34th Street for our national television special on NBC. To ensure a safe experience for all involved, we are not marching down the streets of Manhattan this year and instead will bring all the magic of this American tradition to you on television and online. In preparation for this one-of-a-kind celebration, the Macy’s team meticulously reviewed every area of the Parade playbook to put in place enhanced health and safety practices that align with CDC guidelines, as well as local and state government protocols.

The New York Times reports that in addition to traveling just one city block down 34th Street, as opposed to their two-and-a-half-mile route starting at West 77th Street, the streets surrounding the route will be closed off and the floats will be driven by utility vehicles, rather than the usual uniformed handlers, to limit the number of people involved.

There will be many pretaped performances, including Broadway entertainment, and an appearance from a ballerina from the New York City Ballet who will dance as the Sugar Plum Fairy from George Balanchine’s “The Nutcracker,“ which was canceled this season.
