After announcing that she was making a Christmas album earlier this summer, Lea Michele officially announced her first solo holiday record, CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY!
The former Glee actress has recorded several Christmas albums for the hit FOX television series, but this it the first time she’s been able to create her own collection filled with renditions of her favorite seasonal classics, including “Silver Bells”, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”, and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from Disney’s Frozen.
“It was always my dream to make a Christmas record,” Michele, exclusively told PEOPLE. “Christmas is so special to me. It’s such an important time of year for me and my family that I have so many incredible memories from.”
While this may be Michele’s first festive solo venture, that didn’t stop her from inviting a few friends to lend their voices — including two former “Glee” cast-mates; Michele teamed up with Darren Criss for “White Christmas”, and was joined by her best friend Jonathan Groff for “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”. In addition to “Glee”, Michele and Groff were the original leads from the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Spring Awakening in 2006.
Speaking of Broadway, the third singer who makes a guest appearance on a song is Cynthia Erivo, who will duet with Michele on “Angels We Have Heard on High”. Erivo is known for her Tony Award-winning performance in Broadway’s The Color Purple.
Wow, what an album! Michele has also confirmed that holiday merchandise to accompany the album is in the works but, currently, there’s no official word of a tour yet.
